Topshop Secret Party Lip Crayon [Product Review]

Of the four Topshop lip products I own, this is probably my favourite. I recently reviewed two Lips shades, Brighton Rock and Macaroon, which you can read about here. Topshop Secret Party is a deep hot pink shade that is certainly not for the faint hearted! It's quite different from its counterparts in the more traditional lipstick bullet so let's talk about why!

First of all, my two main complaints with the Lips lipsticks is that they are not very long wearing and they are very drying. Due to the nature of the shade, Secret Party lasts a long time as it actually stains the lips a little. You can get a good few hours wear out of it. While I wouldn't describe it as moisturising, it's not drying and it can be worn comfortably on the lips for a few hours.

In the pencil, it does look quite alarming as there appears to be flecks of gold shimmer in it. Thankfully, these are not as apparent once you are actually wearing the product, and I love that it has a bit of shine. I used to be a matte obsessive when it came to lip products, but now I'm definitely leaning more towards shades like this.

For the price point which I believe is about £7, this products is great. My only issues with it are its pencil format which means I have to sharpen it and ultimately waste a little product and the fact that the colour bleeds a little. However, I've been experimenting with lip liners and such recently and have realised this solves that problem!

Is Secret Party a shade you would wear?

Oh my gosh, I apologise for how moody I look in these pictures! I'm not sure what was wrong with me, but judging from my goosebumps in the bracelets pictures, I'm guessing it was because I was cold! Admittedly, I absolutely did not wear this outfit as it appears here, I did hide under my fur coat all day but seeing as that's appeared in loads of outfit posts recently, I decided not to include it in my photographs.

It has been a while since I dug out these shorts. I bought them around a year ago and at that time, they rarely left my legs. I wore them all the time. After summer though, I ended up forgetting about them. At the moment though I'm in the process of doing a huge wardrobe clearout and I'm forcing myself to ditch my failsafe clothes and start wearing things that I've forgotten about; I'm glad I found these shorts. They're so easy to style which is great because normally I really hate shorts. I like how even though they're faux leather, they feel like really good quality and they've lasted very well so far. I love them with this Primark lace top too. A lovely donation from my sister, I'm very glad she was feeling generous that day! I love a good collar and this one is great. Monochrome is set to be a big trend this season so I'm glad that I already have some perfect pieces. I've also inadvertently jumped on the neon trend bandwagon with my nails! Although it wasn't long ago that I Tweeted that I hated the neon trend, it turns out my new Barry M polish is actually very neon pink. As it's a bit more subtle than a neon piece of clothing though, I think I'll let it slide and after revisiting these pictures, I've realised I really like the colour!

What do you think of monochrome?

The Vixen Loves: I Love...Strawberries and Milkshake

The Vixen Loves is a new feature here on The Glitter Vixen. Sometimes, I use products that I really love and think other people deserve to know about but sometimes, these products don't always warrant a full review. The Vixen Loves is a way for me to share products I love without the expectation of full and in depth reviews.

The I Love...Strawberries and Milkshake bubble bath/shower creme and exfoliating shower smoothie make a fantastic pair. I was first drawn to these by the lovely packaging. I find the pink so appealing and I like products where you can see the product inside. Not to mention, they're quite often in offer in Superdrug for 2 for £2.99. An absolute bargain, I'm sure you agree!

Upon getting these home and using them for the first time, I wasn't disappointed. The main thing I look for in a shower gel is a good smell and boy do these smell delicious! In all honesty, I was initially a little disappointed by the shower smoothie; it didn't feel as exfoliating as I wanted it to. Despite this though, after a few more uses, I noticed my skin was noticeably softer so it must have been doing something! As I worked my way down the bottle, I did feel the exfoliation was a little more noticeable. I think the beads in it must have just sunk to the bottom and the bottle needed a good shake before I needed it. I never used the shower creme as a bubble bath because I'm really not a bath person but as a shower gel it was very pleasing. As I've said, it smells amazing. It lathers up really nicely and leaves me clean and smelling good. Not to mention, the huge 500ml bottle means it lasts for ages.

I've since used up both of these and repurchased some more. I opted out of getting another smoothie and got two of the shower cremes instead as it's better value for money. This time, I tried Coconut which I'm using now and absolutely adore and when that runs out, I have the Raspberry one to try too.

What do you think of my new feature? Is it something you'd like to see more of?

Benefit Sugarlicious Lip and Cheek Kit [Product Review]

Left to Right: Benetint, High Beam, Sugarbomb Blusher, Sugarbomb Lipgloss

The Benefit Sugarlicious Lip and Cheek Kit is a little kit centered around the famous Sugarbomb blush with 3 other super complimentary products: Benetint, High Beam and Sugarbomb Lipgloss. To say I love this kit would be an understatement. I think it's absolutely incredible and I've had to stop myself using it because I would adore to use it every day but then I would run out so quickly and all my other products would be neglected! Overall, everything in the kit works so well together. Benetint gives the Sugarbomb and extra bit of oomph and the High Beam highlighter is what finally convinced me that products that aren't powder are not the devil after all. Benetint is so amazing on your lips and paired with the Sugarbomb lipgloss, you've got one really pinky peachy beautiful makeup look. Now, I'm going to do mini reviews of each individual product!

Lipgloss
I'm starting with the lipgloss first because it's my least favourite product in the kit. This doesn't mean I don't like it though! As to be expected with a lipgloss, it doesn't have very long lasting power at all, but it's a lovely non-sticky consistency. On it's own it's a very sheer colour so it's great for those days where you want nice but natural looking makeup with a bit of shine, and when used over Benetint, it's a match made in heaven for the rest of the products in the kit.

Benetint
I wasn't expecting to like Benetint. I'd seen Posie Tint on the Benefit website and just couldn't understand why they didn't put that one in there instead. In the bottle, Benetint looks so red and scary, I just couldn't see it working on my very light skin. Thankfully, I was proved wrong - despite the scary colour in the bottle, it blends out on skin to a beautiful soft rose pink. I use it on both my cheeks and lips for a really co-ordinated look and it's great for days where I want to look made up but have no time. As a bonus, it smells bloody incredible too and it lasts a good long while on my skin.

High Beam
I am a powder girl. I like loose mineral powder foundation. I like powder blushes. I like powder highlighters. I like powder eyeshadow. Take that cream and liquid away from me! High Beam drew me in though. It looks so pretty and attractive and when I read it's "supermodel in a bottle" I figured it was time to try something a little different from my beloved powders. I'm pleased to report I am in no way disappointed and once my little bottle is up, I'll be hot footing it to Debenhams and repurchasing a full size one! It applies like a dream and the glow it adds to your face is divine. Again, it's very long lasting.

Sugarbomb Blusher
This blusher is the product that made me interested in Benefit. Although I'd heard of Benefit before, I didn't know much about it at all and figured it was just one of those overpriced brands that people like to boast about owning. Then I saw this blusher. I realised I needed this blusher. Then I perused the Benefit website. Then I decided I liked the look of this brand. A few months later, I'm the owner of this kit and receiving my introduction to Benefit and quickly falling in love. This blusher is everything I'd hoped for. Different to anything else in my collection (well, up until a few days ago anyway!) it was great to have a new colour to experiment with. Sugarbomb really makes me look so healthy. It's a lovely, soft, fine powder with very little fallout. Although it fades, it is still there at the end of the day!

So, as you can see, this is a product I genuinely have no bad words for. Are you as much of a Benefit fan girl as I am?

Well, I'm sure that unless this is your first visit to my blog, you knew it wouldn't be long before the disco pants made an appearance again. I'm so glad I invested in a charcoal pair now as well as my black pair; I manage to get so much wear out of them and they've helped me rekindle my love for forgotten pieces of clothing too. For example: I've had this lace Topshop top thing for over 3 years now, I barely wore it, I donated it to my sister, got back from uni, decided I wanted it again, still never wore it. Part of me thinks it's because paired with a black vest top and a black bottom half, I'd just feel too black! As much as I love black, I'm really not a fan of being all black. This is where my charcoal disco pants have saved the day. I can wear black tops like the one featured in this post, without feeling too morbid. Paired with my chunky chain necklace, some skulls on my bracelets and my seriously spiky shoes, I feel this outfit perfectly captures the rocky/grungy/edgier vibe my style always takes on during the colder months. Of course, I had to girly it up with a flowery headband and my giant fur coat is totally and utterly indispensable at the moment!

I've ended up wearing this outfit a fair few times now. I think the event that stands out most in my mind though is Valentine's Day, even though that was so long ago now! It's such a multipurpose outfit though. It's comfy enough to lounge around the house in, it's great for trips to town, but I also wouldn't mind going for drinks wearing this, which now that I think about it, I actually did wear for drinks a week or two ago.

A bit of a short one today, but sometimes, I feel my outfits can do the talking all by themselves! Obviously, mine is my disco pants, but what's your staple wardrobe can't-live-without clothing item?!

FOTD: Everyday Makeup #1

Products Used:
Face: B. Flawless Complete Coverage Foundation in Rose Ivory, Benefit Boi-ing Concealer, Loreal Lumi Magique Highlighting Pen, Rimmel Stay Matte Powder
Cheeks: B. Glowing Shimmer Block in Blush, E.L.F Gotta Glow
Eyes: Urban Decay Smog and Suspect, E.L.F Cream Eyeliner in Coffee, Rimmel ScandalEyes Eyeliner in Nude, Rimmel ScandalEyes Mascara
Lips: Lime Crime Coquette

In all honesty, the makeup I wear on a daily basis changes constantly. I'm at the point now where I own so much makeup that I force myself to rotate it all so that it all gets used and I can almost justify my shopping habits. While a few weeks ok, I was wearing this to work nearly every day; the makeup I'm wearing now is different! Despite this, I've been wanting a FOTD feature on the blog for a while now; mainly to remind myself of what works and what doesn't but also to share with you some of the makeup looks I create and actually wear in real life.

Creating my daily looks is always a simple task. After I've completed my skincare routine (stay tuned for a video about this!) I pop my contact lenses in and then apply my foundation with a foundation brush. In this case, I picked the B. Flawless Foundation because I trust it last while I work. Next up I used my Benefit Boi-ing Concealer under my eyes and on my blemishes. Again, I applied this with a brush - a similar shape to my foundation brush but a lot smaller! I then took my Loreal Lumi Highlighting Pen and put three dots of it underneath each eye and followed this my blending it in with my finger tips. I then added Rimmel Stay Matte Powder to my T Zone and chin because my foundation needs a little help in these areas.

I like to apply powder cheek products with an angled brush, but when using my B. Shimmer Block in Blush for this look, I decided on my stipple brush because it works really well with this product. My highlighter, E.L.F Gotta Glow was applied with an angled blush brush. I put this on the tops of my cheekbones and down my nose.

I then moved onto my eyes. I don't really bother with anything fancy during the day. After applying my primer (currently Lime Crime's Eyeshadow Helper), I added some of the E.L.F Shimmer Palette to my brow bone as a highlight then using a brush, I sweep the shade Suspect from my Urban Decay Book of Shadows III Palette all over my lid followed by Smog on the outer corner. I'm falling in love with eyeliner again at the minute, and love using E.L.F Cream Eyeliner in Coffee for day appropriate makeup. I applied this with a fine liner brush. I always line my waterline with Rimmel ScandalEyes Eyeliner in Nude because I think it really enhances my eyes and helps to conceal sleepless nights. An essential for my eye makeup is of course mascara, my current choice being Rimmel ScandalEyes Volume Flash Mascara.

No makeup look is complete without lipstick and nude lips are among my favourites as I find nude lipsticks tend to suit me. I prepped my lips with a Lush Lip Scrub and a bit of Cherry Carmex and then I swept Lime Crime's Coquette Lipstick in Coquette across my lips straight from the bullet.

As you can see, nothing revolutionary, but I really love this look. When I've worked my way through all the products in my most recent E.L.F haul, I have a feeling I'll be going back to this look!

Topshop Lips (Brighton Rock and Macaroon) [Product Review]

Left: Brighton Rock, Right: Macaroon
Left to Right: Brighton Rock, Macaroon
Brighton Rock
Macaroon

When I see high street shops bring out their own makeup line, I am always a little dubious. I have it in my head that their lines are never very good and they should probably just stick to clothes instead. When Topshop makeup was first released, I regarded it with this very opinion and promptly forgot about it. And then I started reading beauty blogs. A few reviews into Topshop lipstick, and I decided it was about time I dropped my prejudices and gave Topshop makeup a go. For Christmas I received a Topshop giftcard and to me, it was obvious what I should spend that on. I bought two of the "Lips" products in the shades Macaroon and Brighton Rock. Brighton Rock is a very bright pink while Macaroon is a coral/orange toned pink.

Admittedly, these lipsticks aren't the best I've used but I do really like them. I find their formula to be quite drying so lip balm is a must and they aren't as long lasting as I'd like them to be. I'd say they last an hour or two at most. They are however, very pigmented so the colour payoff is fabulous. One swipe of each is more than enough. To be honest, I don't think either of these colours suit me as much as some others in my collection do but I love them both so much that I wear them anyway. When I first bought them, they were so different from any colours I already owned.

Macaroon is probably my most worn of the two just because the colour is a little bit more wearable and suitable for every day and work wear. It works really well with peachy shades of blusher and eyeshadow. I initially shied away from Brighton Rock because in my head it was just too much and I couldn't pull it off. However, when I spend money on something I hate it to go to waste so I've been forcing myself to give Brighton Rock a go recently. I've ended up really liking it, not quite as much as Secret Party which I will be reviewing in due course, but it's definitely a good one to go for when I'm wearing bright shades of pink.

Overall, price wise, I think these are reasonably good lipsticks. I think Topshop's colour range is very good without being full of totally unwearable shades and although the forumla isn't perfect, I never expected it to be and therefore don't mind. In fact, I must like this lipsticks a fair amount, because I've since purchased another colour: Inhibition. I love that one.

What do you think of the Topshop makeup range?

Back to poorly lit indoor pictures again this week I'm afraid! Although I was fully prepared to brave the cold in this outfit and take them outside, my house was sadly being painted this day and even though I'm much more open about my blog these days, I'm still not so comfortable that I can take my outfit photos with an audience of workmen!

This is by far one of my most favourite outfits that I have worn recently and amazingly, I managed to ditch the disco pants for a bit! There's something slightly witchy about my dress, and Season of the Witch is one of my favourite tracks that Hole did unplugged, so I thought it made an apt title for the post. I adore this dress, I don't wear it nearly enough and usually even when I do, it's so cold I have to hide the prettiest part of it underneath a jumper or cardigan or coat anyway. This time was sadly no different but at least I got to hide it under an incredible jacket this time. I think if I'd just worn my regular leather jacket with this outfit, it would be too black but the tapestry part of this jacket adds just a subtle pop of colour that really made the outfit for me. I think my Topshop fox scarf goes with the tapestry jacket so well, I'm really grateful to have received it for Christmas, it's great! So snuggly and warm and a girl who goes by The Glitter Vixen online can never have too many things in her fox themed collection. However, the part I love most about this particular outfit is the newest addition to my headwear collection: my bowler hat with cat ears! It's so cool. I first saw one similar on Missguided but it was 3x the price of this one and had sold out, so turning to eBay was the next obvious step. A few weeks later and this baby arrived on my doorstep. I love it so. I was terrified it was going to be too big for my tiny head but luckily it's just right. The ears make it just a little bit different from your regular bowler hats which admittedly, everyone seems to be wear right now.

Finally, I'm featuring an outfit I didn't wear on a Sunday! It was my chosen outfit for heading into town one morning to get my hair a much needed cut, the improvement is pictured above. I also wore this last week for my trip to Manchester to see some friends. I love going to meet them for a few drinks in Manchester, I always have such a good time. The one drawback is my friends are fans of real ale and I am really not a beer drinker. However, this time a miracle happened, and after sampling about 6 of the beers on offer and the barman laughing at me telling me I was in the wrong place if I didn't like beer, I found one that I genuinely loved. For those interested, it's called My Name is Ingrid. Of course, it was also one of the strongest beers in there. I left to catch my train really quite tipsy and the next morning awoke horrified to realise I'd left my railcard on the train, oops! It amuses me how I went through the whole of uni and I never lost anything while I was drunk and then I get drunk after I've graduated and lose the one of the most valuable things in my purse. Ah well, at some point, I'll try and find out if anyone has handed it in...

InstaVixen #1: "Life's a Grave, Dig It" (f word heavy!)

Last week, was a very, very good week for me. The kind of excellent week I haven't had for quite a while. My week included a flying trip to Manchester to have drinks with a group of wonderful people. I finally found a beer I actually loved and I really enjoyed myself that night. I had some wonderful lazy days away from this blog and spent a bit of time with my stepmum and youngest siblings. The highlight though, was seeing Wednesday 13 on Friday night. Although I have seen Wednesday 13 numerous times now, in fact, I believe Friday could have been time number THIRTEEN, there was something just that little bit more special about Friday night. I woke up on Friday morning feeling so excited. It was an incredible feeling. I used to feel like this frequently and it saddens me I don't anymore but it makes it just that much more special now when I really am truly excited about something. I had my breakfast and spent a good few hours getting ready. I had so much fun applying huge amounts of black eyeliner and my new purple lipstick. Then I ran out of the door and hopped, skipped and jumped to the train station. In Manchester, I had a little time to kill, so sat in Starbucks with a Hazelnut Latte and some shortbread before I tried to remember how to walk to the Academy.

The first thing that made it special was my lovely little indulgence of buying meet and greet tickets. I was exceedingly paranoid about being late and I am obsessed with being early anyway, so I arrived in Manchester a lot earlier than I needed to. I also overestimated how lost I would get so arrived at the Academy an hour and a half before us meet and greet ticket holders were allowed inside. It was so cold. By the time the meet and greet started, I was just so damn happy to be inside in the warmth. The meet and greet itself was absolutely hilarious. With it being the third time I'd met Wednesday (the first time, I'd talked myself backstage, the second was a meet and greet) you'd think I'd have been ok meeting him this time. I really wasn't. The band came on stage for the soundcheck and I grinned at Roman because we had a bit of...urghh..HATE THIS WORD, but I can't think of a better one: banter the first time we'd met. Troy, Jack and Jason I'd never met or seen play before so it was nice to get a good first look at them. Then Wednesday came on stage at last. I was still shivering from being outside but when he walked out my knees almost gave way completely and I turned to the girl I'd met in the queue and said I was going to die. That is how I felt. They played a few songs from the new album and then they came to "meet and greet us". Roman came up to me first and gave me a hug, while the other guys said hi and I managed to squeak a "hi" back. Literally squeak. Wednesday of course was mobbed, and I stayed in a corner staring at him wishing I wasn't so embarrassing. Eventually, I managed to sidle up to him and he finished talking to some other girls and he turned to me and said "So, you're being shy, huh?" while giving me a hug, I laughed and said "Yes, I'm so sorry!" and he said "Oh it's fine, I'm really shy too, that's why I've got sunglasses on." I retorted: "You CAN'T be shy, you get up on stage every night!" but he continued to assure me he was. We had our photo taken together and then his manager whisked him off to talk to press. The whole thing was so awkward but I'm unbelievably glad that everything that happened, did happen, so I could be there and experience that.

As I said on Twitter though, the gig itself was a religious experience. Traditionally, I hate support acts at Wednesday 13. Even the ones that are actually good, I get annoyed at, because I'm usually just like "I WANT FUCKING WEDNESDAY AND I WANT HIM FUCKING NOW". However, this time it was a band called Sister and I was seriously, seriously impressed. In fact, I'm listening to them on Spotify right now. Their performance was energetic and the music was what I've been needing to hear for a long time. I wasn't ever bored and I was happy to move to the music rather than standing there with my grumpy "is it time for Wednesday yet?" face on. Despite this though, Wednesday was of course the highlight of the night. In all honesty, I wasn't keen on the new album to begin with, but now I've heard some songs live, I appreciate it a whole lot more and even have a new favourite. Get Your Grave on has been in my head since Friday, I can't stop singing it and listen to it frequently. The set list was actually amazing, while I feel he left certain essential songs out that I love hearing live, that meant there was room for other songs that I adore that I haven't heard live before. The Ghost of Vincent Price being the main one!

I did have doubts about writing this post. I'm more than aware that most of my audience won't even know who Wednesday is, nevermind care about him enough to read a whole blog post about how much I love him. Yet this week, and on Friday night in those three hours I was dancing and jumping and sweating along with great live music, I've had a bit of an epiphany, and it's that that I really want to share with you all today.

Without going into detail, I've been a very unhappy girl for a very long time, but I am finally starting to feel like myself again now and that sad little girl I've been for a while is disappearing and I'm so fucking glad to see her go. On Friday night, I remembered I am perfectly capable of being attracted to other people. Family read this blog so I won't go into detail about some of the stuff going on inside of my head, but oh my god. Every single band member was a very, very good sight for my eyes, we will put it that way. Not to mention, since I've been listening to Wednesday 13 again, and now Sister, my mood has improved drastically anyway.  People might think that listening to songs about murder and zombies and death would leave me feeling pretty depressed, but in actual fact it has had the opposite effect. I'm old enough and clever enough now to see how much of an act bands like Wednesday 13 are, their lyrics are so tongue in cheek and all the makeup and stage clothes are just for show. It's essentially a whole lot of fun. Don't get me wrong, Garbage and Hole are my two favourite bands and always, always, always will be, but I can't deny that their songs are big misery fests for me. It's comic relief to hear lyrics like "I love blood and guts and all that violent stuff, I like guns, knives and taking peoples lives" in comparison to lyrics written by Shirley or Courtney that hit home in a painful way. Not to mention, getting all dressed up in my tiny tight black lace dress with Doc Martens, a big baggy hoodie and wonderfully gothic makeup to finish it off with was seriously good fun as well.

On Friday night, I let go and I was Emily again. Emily who loves to go to gigs and make a mess of herself while having a good good good time. Emily who really doesn't care about people staring at her on the street. I was Emily by herself. I wasn't Emily one half of a pair, I wasn't Emily the broken hearted. I was just Emily. I know people think I should have grown out of this by now, but I'm fucking glad I haven't. Hell, I'm going to be going to see Wednesday 13 as long as he's still touring. Reliving one of the best parts of my teenage years has finally brought me back down to earth again.

My advice to you then, so that this post isn't entirely about me. If you want to do something, do it. Don't worry about what anyone else is saying, go on your own if you have to, blow your savings, do something fun, something that is just for you. It's the best high in life. BE COMPLETELY, AND UTTERLY, UNASHAMEDLY, YOU.

Barry M Berry Ice Cream with Models Own Jack Frost

For those of you who read my old blog, this outfit may be a little bit familiar to you as I have worn one very similar to it before. However, this time I swapped a skirt for my beloved disco pants instead hence the little V2 in the title of this post! I love love love pairing silver/grey colours with lilac pastel purple shades and this outfit is no exception. It makes me sad I have to hide the shirt in this outfit underneath my jumper and coat in order to stay warm. But hey, sometimes a girl has to choose to be comfortable over stylish! Needless to say though, when it gets a bit warmer, this shirt and these disco pants will be getting a lot of outings. I think my little silver pieces of jewelry along with my spiky loafers really complete this look. I do have an amazing silver sequin bag that I'd love to wear this outfit with however, the sequins ruin any clothes they rub against and it's too small for a girl who likes to cart her life around with her in her bag.

I wanna talk about my nails today. This is the last picture I took of them before I had an accident which meant my nails are now very short and not so nice looking. I wish I could photograph Models Own Jack Frost properly because it really is the most stunning polish ever. Sadly, photographs find it very difficult to capture it. I've layered it over a few different polishes so far, but over Barry M's Berry Ice Cream has to be my favourite combination so far. I called them my fairy nails because they were so pretty and sparkly, it made me feel like a fairy, in the same way that Models Own Dancing Queen made me feel like a mermaid.

My makeup too delighted me this day but like my nails, it was refusing to show up on camera. I spoke about my new B. Products in my latest video and as time goes on, I'm starting to like them even more. My favourite has to be the Shimmer Block though, a great multipurpose product. I've been wearing it on both my eyes and cheeks recently and I love the way it looks. It's really pigmented, a super soft powder with just the right amount of shimmer to it. I'm not really a big bronzer girl as I'm very pale, but this is a perfect alternative for me.

Again, this is just another  Sunday outfit in which I didn't do anything exceptional or worth talking about. Sundays are actually one of my favourite days of the week, but I don't actually do anything that's of interest to other people!

What do you think of lilac and silver?
