Motivation Monday: Who Is Going To Save You?

Who Is Going To Save You If You Don't Save Yourself?

Here's a clue: no one. For me, the fact that the only person who is going to save me from myself is me is often a hard pill to swallow. I have so many crutches to lean on that act as excuses for me to not reach my full potential, gain the things I want from life, remain forever in my not-so-great comfort zone. Oh I'm too depressed to clean my house today. Oh I'm too anxious to look for a new job with better money in a new town that is more affordable to live in. I feel too ill to do my to do list today.

And I go on, and on, and on.
While sometimes, yes, my mental health does act as a barrier between me and thing things I want, as does my myterious and unnatural extreme tiredness, I will now be the first to admit that I use these as an excuse.

Although there are a growing number of things in my life I wish to change right now, the truth is it's a lot easier to stay exactly where I am. Sure, it might be making me miserable remaining in my "comfort zone" but the point is, when I don't make an effort to change things, I know exactly what to expect.

If I decide to pull myself together, start making an effort to change things, my life becomes unpredictable, and that's scary.

The thing that prompted me to start Operation Supervixen was that my fear of things staying exactly the same as they are now scared me a hell of a lot more than trying to change things for the better.

A lot of people think Motivational Quotes and the like should be all frilly and postive and happy, but today's Monday Motivation is going to motivation by fear because sometimes, fear is the only thing that gets us off our bums.

In my Arbonne business, I often ask people questions such as "If you keep doing exactly what you are doing now, what will your life look like in five years time?" or "If you lost your job today, how long could you get by on your savings? Do you even have any savings?"

Today, I'm asking myself the same questions and I am not liking my answers. Do you like yours?

I'm guessing a lot of you, just like me, are quite scared by those questions. So what are you going to do about it? I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it really is going to have to be you who does something about it.

No one is going to come along and change your life for you, it has to come from within and until you start making changes internally, you won't see any externally.

Cheerful Wednesday Addams

Outfit Details:
Headband: Miss Selfridge

Socks: Primark
Shoes: Primark

Makeup Details

Cheeks: Arbonne Merlot Blush, Arbonne Highlighter

Lips: MUA Power Pout in Crazy in Love

Oh you cannot imagine how much of a walking cliche I felt like strolling into town wearing this very outfit with Hole's Live Through This album blasting into my ears! I was originally intending to channel my beloved Wednesday Addams with this outfit (albeit a smiley version), but listening to Courtney screaming made me realise I could also have been influenced by her too!

Although though this dress is pretty damn similar to every other dress I own, I must say I love it. Sadly I missed out on it when it was originally on the Missguided website, but thankfully managed to snag it for a few quid on eBay as the zip was broken. Winner!

I wanted to keep this outfit relatively simple, opting for my cute little (OLD) Miss Selfridge headband and my beloved frilly Primark socks. I went for my brogues shoe wise as I felt like boots might be too heavy that day.

I wanted the statement within this look to be my makeup and it's such a shame that my camera never ever manages to pick up what a fantastic shade Crazy in Love is! Looking back, I think I'd make my eyes a little bit grungier too, to contrast with the girliness of the headband.

Still adore this little outfit and makeup look though!

UK Etsy Beauty Picks

Today's post is all about supporting small British businesses and using alternatives to mainstream beauty brands. So often I stumble upon Etsy beauty posts on other blogs or on Tumblr, just to discover something that looks gorgeous is not available in the UK. For this reason, I've focused on shops that are UK-based and ship to the UK. Although the vast majority of my readers are from this country, I apologise for those of you who are not!

Just Be Natural Rejuvenate Facial Oil
When I stumbled across this facial oil, I was amazed by how professional the packing looks! This would absolutely not look amiss on the shelves of Boots or Superdrug. At £15 it's relatively affordable and is packed full of good ingredients.

Bathtime Treat Giftbox
How cute is this gift box full of adorable looking bath bombs? If they smell half as good as they look, these would make an excellent gift for a bath time loving friend...or yourself!

Strawberry or Coconut Soap
I rarely use bar soap for hygiene and practicality reasons, but there's no denying that some of the handmade stuff out there both smells and looks amazing! I'd be tempted to eat this if I owned it, but would settle for washing myself in sweet strawberry scents...

Matching Makeup Bag and Brush Roll
Mint green and floral print, a favourite combination of mine, and who doesn't like having matching sets? I love a good brush roll, but having a makeup bag to match is something I've yet to achieve. Perhaps it's time for a change?

White and Pink Gradient Heart False Nails
As much as I love having amazing nails, I just don't have the time or patience these days! Looking at these, it definitely looks like next time I buy some falsies, I'll be paying for someone to take all the hard work away for me. These pink and black nails are fab!

Heavenly Lemon Gift Set
Yet another homemade Etsy product that just looks so super professional. I can totally see this lining the shelves in a department store. I personally think lemon is such an underrated scent and I imagine this candle and soap combo to have a delicate but exceedingly pleasant lemony smell to them.

Do you have any favourite Etsy beauty stores?

The Vixen Thinks: Positive Actions For Positive Days

The Vixen Thinks is an almost weekly feature on this blog. Posts vary in topic, I'll talk about anything I have an opinion on! From blogging to relationships to feminism and anything beyond. If there's anything you'd like me to write about, feel free to get in touch: theglittervixen(at)gmail(dot)com! Thank you!

Today I'm sharing the tips and tricks I use and believe help make my life a little bit better on a daily basis. Admittedly this is is another post I've stolen from my old blog, although this time I have tweaked it so it contains more current information.

I am currently bursting with ideas for good Vixen Thinks posts but unfortunately, I am strapped for time and energy at the moment, so I'm utilising the materials available to me (past writing) so I can keep my blog active and make sure when I do post completely fresh content, it's up to the high standards I set for myself.

In the meantime, please enjoy and make use of my positive living tips!

Develop a Good, Comforting Morning Routine

My ideal morning routine would currently go something like this:
  • Wake up when my alarm goes off
  • Spend 10 minutes or so before the next snooze goes off checking up on any messages/notifications I've received overnight and tend to my Pou
  • Get out of bed, make my bed and hop into the shower
  • Apply skincare and makeup and do my hair
  • Put on a banging outfit for the day
  • Have a breakfast of either porridge or yoghurt with honey, nuts and seeds accompanied by a smoothie and a tea or coffee
  • Take the 40 minutes walk to work to get my workout and endorphins for the day
At the moment, I struggle most days as I'm battling inexplicable exhaustion again, but the days I do manage something that resembles this, I feel absolutely fantastic.

I personally believe morning routines are so important because you know what to expect every morning and you can set up a good tone for the rest of the day.

Do One Good Deed for Another Everyday
There's nothing like doing something for someone else to make you feel good in turn. I'm not talking huge, grand gestures, although they are just as good, it can be something as simple as leaving a lovely little message on the Facebook wall of a friend you haven't seen for a while. I like to leave anonymous messages on Tumblr for people that are full of love - they never know it's me, but I know I've made their say a little bit better. You'll never be truly happy if you keep all your happiness to yourself, so get out there and spread it!

Note to self: become an anonymous Tumblr angel again!

Start Writing Gratitude Lists

This is a tip I learnt from Gala Darling but it's one I've had to share, because there's nothing like turning your attention to the good in your life to really brighten up your day. In my gratitude lists, I list all the things I am grateful for that day, I write about aspects of my life I am loving that day. I write about simple things such as the sunny weather or bigger things like my mum's upcoming wedding. When you actively take time out of your day to write something as positive as this, you are choosing to recognise the good in your life and I dare you to try tell me you don't feel at least a little uplifted after writing a gratitude list! Eventually, noticing the good over the bad becomes a natural habit.

Say No to Gossip

A quote I admire, I believe it comes from Eleanor Roosevelt, states "small minds discuss people", and it's oh so true.

Sadly, I'm a sucker to gossip, a few years ago it was reading Perez Hilton. After that, that horrid Livejournal community I can't bring myself to name. In university, I was a horrid gossip and spoke about anyone and everyone outside my friendship group. More recently, I'll admit to keeping up with that forum

And do you know what, not only does gossip make me miserable, it makes me goddamn boring as well. I find people who can hold a conversation without once mentioning someone else in a negative way absolutely fascinating and so uplifting to be around.

When you're not wasting energy thinking or reading bad things about other people, your mind is forced to think about and discuss other things with people. It really removes such a negative influence from your life.

What you think about other is often a reflection on yourself, so what on earth do you gossip habits reveal?

I feel like we've all heard this one before, but it really works.

While I've suffered from depression from around the age of 15, there have been two large episodes in my life where I feel it has been at its worst and I have hit rock bottom.

There is however, one big difference.

This first time, I locked myself in the room, I got no fresh air, no exercise. I genuinely feel like I fell apart during this time in my life, I considered suicide and it took me forever to claw myself back out again.

The second time was this year. This time, I had to get to work and this meant I had to get 80 minutes of exercise a day while walking there and back.

The rock bottom I was expecting? It never came. I was able to get the help I needed. I felt goddamn awful, but there were pleasant bits every day, it wasn't the constant blackness I'd experienced before.

I know I've got exercise and fresh air to thank for that.

Surround Yourself With Positive People

Personally, I find this one quite hard to do literally, so instead, I make sure the people I follow on Twitter etc are positive influences. I recommend unfollowing people who moan about everything. Delete the negative people from Facebook or if that will really cause too much of a rift for you, just hide them from appearing on your news feed. Make inspirational boards on Pinterest. Follow Tumblr blogs that focus on the good rather than the type that is full of "my life is so hard boohoooooo" quotations and images. When you remove as much negativity from your life as you possibly can, you're forced to focus on the positives. It makes you practice being positive yourself. Slowly but surely, you won't have to work hard to be happy, it will start coming to you naturally.

So, these are my tips to ensure you have plenty more good days rather than bad ones! These are all things I have implemented into my own life and use on a daily basis and they have worked wonders for me. I've found during my journey to becoming a happier person that a lot of advice out there isn't applicable to me. You've got to pick and choose the advice that works for you, continue what works, and ditch what doesn't. Happiness is a choice and it takes work at first but the harder you work, the easier it gets and who doesn't want to be happy?

MUA One Direction Kiss You Lipsticks [PRODUCT REVIEW]

Moments - Niall

I Wish - Zayn

Louis - Rock Me
Well, isn't today's post a little embarrassing! Posting about a makeup collection quite obviously aimed at girls a lot younger than myself...

I'm no major 1/D Fan Girl, but I'd be lying if I said there isn't one I find rather attractive (hint: I've got his shade!) and I do find myself singing along to their incredibly catchy tunes.

Back when I used to work at Superdrug, I would swatch every lip colour going and when we finally got testers in for the MUA One Direction range of makeup, it was no exception. To my surprise, I really, really liked the three shades I ended up picking up: Zayn's I Wish, Louis' Rock Me and Niall's Moments.

Moments is perhaps one of my favourite lip colour shades ever. It's the perfect shade of pink for me with just the right amount of shimmer to it, I really can't get enough of it and it's my most worn of the three.

My second favourite has got to be Rock Me, a nice lavendar/pink hue, not quite purple enough to make it unwearable, but not so pink it's exactly the same as my other lipsticks.

Finally I picked up a nice bright pink in the form I Wish. While I don't get as much wear out of this one, it's still a fab shade and I think I will try and make more of an effort to wear it in future.

Now we've established I really love the shades of these lipsticks, how do they actually perform? Surprisingly well for a celebrity makeup range and product that cost me £3 actually! Moments does occasionally feel a little dry on the lips after a while, but the other two are absolutely fine. I am also impressed by the few hours wear time I manage to get out of these as well.

Unlike the MUA Power Pouts I reviewed last week, these are pretty solid in formula so I don't have to worry about these melting or spoiling my carpet! The packaging is also pretty sturdy feeling, if a little cringey for me to look at!

Unfortunately, I'm not sure how easy it is to get your hands on these anymore. I've noticed they aren't on the MUA site and it's been a while since I popped into a  Superdrug. Definitely worth keeping your eye out for on eBay or blog sales though if you were interested in these, me likey!
