A few months back, I'd run out of shampoo so wandered into Lush to pick up some Rehab shampoo because my hair was in need of some TLC at the time. While in there, I got chatting to a very friendly sales assistant who talked me through the different options available for someone with fine, dry and damaged hair. In the end, I decided against a repurchase of Rehab and opted for the Jason and the Argan Oil shampoo bar instead.
So what are shampoo bars? They're essentially little round disks of solid shampoo. I've always been intrigued by the idea of them but for some reason, I had it in my head that you'd only get four or five washes from them so I'd never given one a try. In actual fact, you can get up to 80 washes out of the Lush shampoo bars, so I was finally swayed to give it a try.
As the name suggests, Jason and the Argan Oil is full of argan oil - perfect for hair like mine. It's also got rose and lemon in, which happen to be two of my favourite scents. This, along with the lovely pink colour, are what convinced me this was the shampoo bar for me.
First of all, let's get my issues with this product out of the way. I purchased a little silver Lush tin to store my shampoo bar in, thinking it would be seriously useful. I was warned in the shop to let the shampoo bar dry completely before popping it back in the tin. I thought that I would be able to get away with putting the bar in the tin and leaving the lid off, but no, this was not the case. Doing this meant that the underside of the bar became some sort of horrible gloopy jelly, making it unusable. Thankfully - I was able to rescue it. I scooped the jelly out of tin and remoulded it back into the shampoo bar shape and then left it to air dry on a paper towel on the side in my bathroom. Now I don't use the tin at all, I just always return the shampoo bar to the paper towel after use.
Being full of oil, I did wonder at how well the Lush Jason and the Argan Oil shampoo bar was going to clean my hair. Thankfully, it does make my hair look and feel very clean - almost like when you wash your hands with a bar of soap and they get "squeaky clean." It also lathers up a surprising amount. Since using this product, I've had a few compliments about how shiny my hair is and it certainly feels softer, more manageable and in better condition.
I'd certainly recommend the Lush Shampoo Bars if you're after an alternative to traditional shampoo - just be prepared to store it out in the open on your side and don't bother with the tin. If you've got dry or damaged hair that needs a little extra care, Jason and the Argan Oil can do a great job at fixing it.
Have you used the Lush shampoo bars? Which is your favourite?
