I was recently invited to an exclusive launch night at Reading's newest pizza place: Franco Manca. I'm a huge pizza fan and was particularly excited to experience Franco Manca's unique approach to pizza. It's created on homemade sourdough bread with only the best ingredients and cooked in a wood-fired oven.

So, what did I think of it all?

Upon arrival to the restaurant, we were offered a drink. My friend Ella went for an Aperol Spritz but I was eager to try one of the organic wines on offer and went for the white. It didn't disappoint, and neither did the Aperol Spritz I had later on in the evening!

Shortly after arriving, we were treated to some of the starters on offer: Italian cold meats, mozzarella balls, wild garlic pesto and rosemary and garlic flatbreads. I love things like salami, cheese and garlic bread - they're honestly some of my favourite foods - and I can confirm everything was delicious. I particularly enjoyed dipping bread into the wild garlic pesto and pairing the meat with the mozzarella. I wish I could eat like that every day!

Whilst waiting for pizza, we were treated to a pizza masterclass explaining exactly how the dough at Franco Manca is made and what makes it so special. As someone who worked at Domino's for years, it was really interesting to see dough being made from scratch rather than arriving pre-portioned and ready to go overnight. We were even given the opportunity to make our own pizza which was thoroughly enjoyable. I am definitely out of practice though!

Of course, the highlight of the night was the pizza itself. We were given a selection of pizzas from the menu, including vegetarian ones. I tried every single one and they were all delicious although naturally, the chorizo pizza has a special place in my heart. I can also confirm that sourdough made from scratch is much, much tastier than other pizza - sorry Domino's!

What surprised me most was the prices. The pizzas are all around £5-8 which I think is astonishingly good for restaurant pizza! You pay more than that for nowhere-near-as-nice takeaway pizzas!

If you've got a Franco Manca near you, I wholeheartedly recommend a visit. The staff were really friendly, the food hot and tasty and the alcohol great. Combine this with the fab prices and the warm, welcoming atmosphere and you've really got a winner.

Have you been to Franco Manca before? Is there one near you?

I was invited to come and experience Franco Manca free of charge in return for blog and social media coverage but all the Franco Manca love in this post is real! Please read my disclaimer for more info.
